Waiting For Our Rainbow Baby

I want to thank my patient readers as I have taken a hiatus from blogging during this pregnancy.

It’s been a long 9 months of nausea, exhaustion, hope, fear and anticipation.  Now our rainbow baby is due any time, and I can hardly believe I’ll actually get to hold her in my arms.

I hadn’t originally intended to suspend my blog, but with so many other demands on my body, energy and sanity during this period, something had to give.   I’ve spent the past several months focused on staying rested and healthy in the midst of homeschooling my older three children, acting as Troop Coordinator for our local American Heritage Girls troop, and volunteering for the Oregon Tea Party.

These days my political activism is focused primarily on running the Oregon Tea Party Facebook Page, so please “like” and follow my posts there.  Then click “share” on the ones you find most important.  It’s a simple way to spread the word and make a difference.

One important note: Facebook is now hiding up to 97% of posts of from pages you “like” from your news feed, in an attempt to force those pages to pay for “promoted posts.” So how do you get around Facebook censorship and make sure you don’t miss anything? Hover your mouse over the “Liked” button on our page, and select “Get Notifications” and “Add to Interest Lists.” That’s it.

I don’t know when I’ll be able to take up blogging again, but in the meantime, thank you for your patience and support, and keep up the good fight in whatever sphere of influence you have!

To Tell Or Not To Tell

There’s a tradition in our society that says it’s not a good idea to tell people about your pregnancy until you’re past the “safe mark” of 12 weeks, when the risk of miscarriage diminishes. The unspoken message is that miscarriage is best kept quiet. Nobody wants to know about the ones that didn’t make it. In fact, our culture barely regards them as even human. That’s why you hear statements like “thank goodness you weren’t that far along,” “don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll have another, “ or “at least you have (your older children),” as if you’d lost a dream instead of a living child. These are things people would NEVER say to parents who’d lost an older child, but because of our culture’s dismissive attitude towards unborn life, these children are viewed as less valuable. Their mothers are expected to grieve in private silence, if they are given permission to grieve at all.

For those who find themselves pregnant after losing a baby, we know there is no such thing as a “safe mark.” We know that life is fragile, and that it can just as easily be lost after 12 weeks as before. There are no guarantees. We have lost our innocence…the ability to look at that little plus sign and instantly be filled with the joyful expectation of holding that little bundle in nine months. We walk a tightrope of joy and sorrow, hope and dread, knowing that the next appointment may bring the words that we fear most: “I’m sorry, I can’t find a heartbeat.”

Even though I never got to hold Autumn, Eden and Hope, they’re still my babies. I’m still their mother. The only way I know to parent them is to honor their brief lives here on earth, and acknowledge that they are real children, now waiting in heaven for me. They weren’t just blobs of tissue. They weren’t just lines on a pregnancy test. They were precious, individual souls…and so is the one I carry now.

My last three babies didn’t make it to the “safe zone” of 12 weeks. I live with the knowledge that there is a very real possibility that I won’t get to meet this baby on this side of heaven, either. My children’s lives, like my own, are in God’s hands, and I have no control over them. But whatever the outcome, I have peace that God is in control, and I WILL meet my babies someday, although perhaps not as soon as I would hope. In the meantime, I best way I know to honor their lives is simply by acknowledging their presence. By recognizing that every life matters, no matter how brief.

So for now, I will partner with God in carrying this little life as long as He allows me to, and accept each day we have together as a gift.

When I was 8 weeks pregnant, I went with some friends to a 3-hour women’s self defense seminar offered by a local Krav Maga studio.   I put a name tag on my belly that said “baby” so nobody would grab me around the waist, and enjoyed every minute of it.  They gave everyone a coupon for a month of free classes, but I didn’t want to push it as my pregnancy progressed.

What I didn’t know was that I was carrying twins, and they were already gone.   Four weeks later, we buried them.

When the studio offered a summer special on classes, I decided to take them up on it.   I’ve been wanting to learn self-defense for awhile and need to get the baby weight off.   Though most people I know do Zumba, my mood right now is much more towards fighting than dancing.

During my first class the instructor told me, “you’ve got a lot of aggression and fight in you.”   No one has ever told me that before.  I immediately knew it was coming from all the frustration of trying to fight something that can’t be conquered.  The only reason I was even able to take the class was because I was no longer pregnant.  No matter how hard I try, I can’t change that fact.  I can’t bring my babies back.   Suddenly I was slammed by a wave of grief and anger.  The lump in my throat strangled me far more than my partner’s practice choke-hold.

The next day I argued with myself over what I had gotten myself into and whether I should go back.   I hate it when my grief catches me off-guard in public, and was afraid of losing it in the middle of class.   I forced myself to go back at the next available opportunity, knowing that if I didn’t face the fear immediately, I would find an excuse never to return.

Towards the end of my second class they did a drill where they exhausted you and then had you fight off an attacker with pure instinct and adrenaline.   I was ready to give up and the instructor and two other students kept telling me I could do it.   It reminded me of being in labor, when I’d be convinced I couldn’t go on and everyone around me would encourage me.   But the difference was, there was a wonderful reward at the end of all that labor.   And the last time I had been pushed to my limit like this, there had been no reward.  Nobody to cheer me on.  Just silence, and the remains of my babies to be buried.   Another grief trigger.  I managed to fight off my opponent but I couldn’t stop the tears once the class was over.   They probably thought I was nuts.

It’s amazing how raw emotion rises to the surface when you’re pushed to the limits.  The ache in my muscles is nothing compared to the aching chasm in my heart, and no amount of Advil can touch it.  Right now I’m faced with two choices: keep learning to swim in this ocean of grief, or allow myself to drown in it.   I’m coming to terms with the fact that sometimes the only way to heal is simply to fight through the pain.

Pro-Life Congresswoman Shares That Her Unborn Baby Has Fatal Condition, Leftist Hate-Fest Ensues

Praying for Rep. Beutler and her husband, especially since she is now the target of hate mail from Lefty trolls who are reveling in her pain.

Representative Jaime Herrera Beutler, a pro-life Republican from Washington state, recently shared the sad news about her unborn baby and a potentially fatal diagnosis.

Beutler posted a message on Facebook saying her unborn child has been diagnosed with Potter’s Syndrome, a condition which prevents the child’s kidneys from developing properly and is typically fatal for the baby.

On May 1, Beutler, 34, announced that she and her husband, Daniel Beutler, were expecting their first baby this fall.

“We don’t know what the future holds for our family, but we ask for your prayers and appreciate the privacy a family needs in such circumstances,” Herrera Beutler wrote. “According to the medical information and advice we’ve received, I will be able to continue to balance the responsibilities of an expectant mother with serving as your representative in Congress.”

“Our baby has a serious medical condition called Potter’s Syndrome,” Herrera Beutler announced Monday on Facebook. “We have had a second opinion and the medical diagnosis was consistent with the initial news: there is no medical solution available to us. We are praying for a miracle.”

Unfortunately, “tolerant” leftist hatemongers have decided to unleash their venom on a suffering pregnant woman:

While many offered Beutler love and support, others took it as an opportunity to gloat or proclaim that the child should be aborted. Matthew Archbold, a writer for the National Catholic Register, collected some of the comments left at the Huffington Post and elsewhere. A few gems:

– Oh goody… and she’s GOP…. let’s all watch this one develop. Let’s see if she follows the party line ….

–Abort the baby. Wait a few months. Get pregnant again. This is not a big deal.

– Why not be proactive and get an abortion?

– Sorry, prayers won’t do a damn thing.

– She should just go to a Planned Parenthood and be done with “it”, after all, it’s not a human yet.

–I laugh at her in that her political ideology has her in a corner I would wish nobody in.

This sickening behavior – gloating over a baby’s illness and her mother’s pain – is more common than you might think.

[...]  What motivates these people to abuse women who have chosen to carry to term despite a poor prenatal diagnosis? I strongly suspect that many of them have been involved in an abortion – or know they would want one in a similar situation. It angers them to see someone make a choice they didn’t have the courage to make themselves. But it’s impossible for any normal-thinking person to really know what motivates them.

Like all good sociopaths, the bullies try to shift blame on to the victims, saying they were “asking for” such treatment because of their political views. Since a pro-lifer would “force” women in her situation to give birth, she deserves to be shamed and harassed throughout her difficult pregnancy.

But anyone with a normal sense of compassion and empathy would say that’s not just irrational. It’s evil. Few things are more sociopathic than abusing a pregnant woman carrying a terminally ill child – no matter what her political affiliation.

Caught On Tape: IRS agent warns non-profit group, “Keep your faith to yourself.”

Last month, it came out that the IRS had demanded that an Iowa pro-life group seeking tax exempt status provide details about “the content of the members of your organization’s prayers,” and warned them not to protest Planned Parenthood if they wanted their non-profit status approved.

Now, an audio recording reveals that an IRS agent in Texas actually warned a pro-life group not to share their faith with their clients:

The IRS scandal is deepening as a new tape has been released today showing a disturbing phone call the Internal Revenue Service placed to a non-profit organization.

Alliance Defending Freedom, a pro-life legal group, made the audio available today of IRS officials telling a group that provides support to women in abusive pregnancy situations to keep its faith to itself. In the recorded phone conversation, an IRS agent lectures the president of the organization about forcing its religion and beliefs on others and inaccurately explains that the group must remain neutral on issues such as abortion.

ADF is providing legal representation for the group — which did not receive its tax-exempt status until last week after waiting nearly two and a half years after applying for it.

“The IRS is a tax collector; it shouldn’t be allowed to be the speech and belief police,” said Senior Legal Counsel Erik Stanley. “The current scandal isn’t new but has merely exposed the abuse of power that characterizes this agency and threatens our fundamental freedoms.”

Grieving What Should Have Been

Should. Shouldn’t. These are loaded words, borne of disappointed expectations. We shouldn’t be living in a world marred by sin, disease and death, but we do. No mother should have to bury her child – much less three – but I have.

I was sitting with several of my mommy friends at church, watching them nurse and entertain their infants, when I was suddenly struck with the realization that I should be nursing a two-month-old right now. But I’m not, because she’s buried under our maple tree. And suddenly I couldn’t breathe.

I’m a tummy sleeper. One of the things I hated most about being pregnant was how difficult it was to get comfortable when I couldn’t sleep on my tummy. But lately, as I curl up comfortably in bed, I weep. My belly should be getting in my way right now, but it’s not, because my babies are gone.

I keep getting maternity junk mail from companies who probably got my address when I registered to track my babies’ development online. Those accounts are deleted now, but the cheerful baby coupons keep coming to torture me, because an automated mailing list doesn’t know when a mother’s hope has turned to grief. My heart shouldn’t sink when I open my mailbox, but it does.

With my confused body trying to adjust to the loss of two pregnancies in nine months, I once again pack away my maternity clothes with the awareness that I still look pregnant, and will until I can muster the energy to lose the baby weight. I shouldn’t dread the innocent congratulations of strangers who look at my belly and wonder whether we’re having a boy this time, but I do.

There are days when I’m able to forget for awhile. When I can laugh with friends, enjoy a movie or get through my to-do list as if nothing happened. But I’m continually nagged by the feeling that I’m forgetting something, like when you walk into a room for a purpose and then can’t remember why. It’s as if I’m constantly looking for something, but don’t know what it is or where to find it. I shouldn’t be haunted by this aimless emptiness. But I am.

My moods unexpectedly swing from numbness to overwhelming sorrow, from frustration to anger, but I never know which wave I’ll have to ride next, when it will hit or what will trigger it. Some days I’m resigned, and others I rage, “Why offer me a precious gift and then yank it back, Lord? Why raise my hopes only to see them dashed? I don’t want promises or comforting words. I want my babies here in my arms! That’s how it SHOULD be!

But in the end, I know that when I say “should,” what I’m really saying is, “If I were God…” But I’m not. And the truth is, my children ultimately aren’t mine. They’re His. Even the three tucked safely in their beds are just on loan for awhile. He is ultimately their Heavenly Father, who loves them even more than I’m capable of.

The three precious babies He took home were only here for a few weeks, and they were born immediately to a place where they’ll never have known suffering, fear or grief. That must be an extraordinary experience. Their mommy isn’t so lucky, but God knows that our sufferings here are temporary, and eternity is a long, long time to enjoy the healing and restoration of what was lost. It doesn’t feel brief or temporary right now, but in comparison with eternity, it is.

In the meantime, I just have to remember that I’m not alone, and make it through another day…

A few months ago I started reading a series of biographies from YWAM Publishing. With my own recent loss, I was particularly struck by how many of these Christian heroes had lost children. William Penn lost five of eight children with his first wife before she passed, and three of his eight children with his second wife. Of Count Zinzendorf’s twelve children, only three daughters survived. John Wesley’s mother, Susannah, outlived nine of her 19 children. Only one of Abraham Lincoln’s four sons made it to adulthood. George Washington had no children of his own, but both of his stepchildren died young. Of course, these are the children who made it at least to birth. Nobody knows how many miscarriages, if any, these families suffered, since it remains a hidden grief even to this day.

Until two years ago, I hardly knew anyone who had lost a child. Now I know several. Whether from disease, accidents, stillbirth or miscarriage, nearly every family I know has been visited by death in some way. Having now buried three of my own, I understand their grief. Its a very sobering reality to be faced with, especially in a modern culture that largely sweeps death out of sight and doesn’t really know how to deal with the grieving. We don’t dress in black and observe extended periods of mourning anymore. We expect loved ones to pick up the pieces and get on with their lives almost as soon as the funeral is over. And we definitely don’t know how to deal with the loss of children, especially the unborn. Infant mortality rates are so low in the Western world, it’s largely unexpected and comes as a great shock. While 1 in 4 pregnancies ends in miscarriage, it often remains a private, hidden grief. It can be very isolating to grieve while everyone else seems to be enjoying their intact families, especially if the people around you barely acknowledge that what you were carrying was even a baby at all.

The healing comes in acknowledging that every life is precious, even those we never got to meet. Every life is a miracle, no matter how short. With all the things that can go wrong, it really is amazing that any of us make it at all. That’s why, even though some may think it silly or unnecessary or morbid, we decided that it’s important to bury our unborn children with dignity.

God keep you until we meet in heaven, little ones. Mommy loves you.

IRS Targeted Billy Graham, James Dobson, Christian and Pro-Life Groups

If you’re opposed to the idolatrous cult of the Messianic Nanny State, beware…the Obama administration has you in their cross-hairs.

John Boyle writes at The Citizen-Times:

In a blistering letter to President Barack Obama, the Rev. Franklin Graham said the IRS targeted the two non-profits he heads with an audit last year after the organizations took out ads urging people to support biblical principles on marriage and in choosing political candidates.

In the letter, dated Tuesday, Graham said in light of recent revelations that the Internal Revenue Service targeted conservative groups with “tea party” or “patriot” in their names, he does not believe the audit was “a coincidence — or justifiable.” Graham, son of famed Christian evangelist the Rev. Billy Graham, now heads the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association based in Charlotte, N.C., and Samaritan’s Purse, a worldwide relief organization headquartered in Boone.

“I am bringing this to your attention because I believe that someone in the administration was targeting and attempting to intimidate us,” Graham concluded in the letter. “This is morally wrong and unethical — indeed some would call it ‘un-American.’”

James Dobson, the pro-life family advocate disclosed today that he was a victim of IRS discrimination, in a revelation that adds to the growing Internal Revenue Scandal.

Dobson, the founder of Focus on the Family, says he faced discrimination from the federal agency when trying to start a new group.

Family Talk Action Corporation is a Christian ministry that was formed for the purpose of spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ; of providing Christ-oriented advice and education to parents and children; and of speaking to cultural issues that affect the family. Dobson is the president and CEO.

On September 2, 2011, Family Talk Action filed a Form 1024 with the Internal Revenue Service requesting § 501(c)(4) status. The attorney completing this form had submitted scores of similar applications over his 26 year career with none being rejected.

In January and February 2013, Family Talk Action’s counsel called the IRS reviewing agent, R. Medley (ID no. 52402), to inquire regarding when there would be a determination of the application. Her voice mail box was full on each of these calls so no message could be left. On March 6, he called Ms. Medley again and got routed to her voice mail again. This time, he was able to leave a voice mail message and requested a return call.

Medley did not call back until March 19. Family Talk Action’s attorney asked her when the IRS would issue its determination letter. Ms. Medley responded saying, I don’t think your Form 1024 (application for exemption) will be granted because Family Talk Action is “not educational” because it does not present all views. She continued, saying that Family Talk Action sounded like a “partisan right-wing group” because, according to Ms. Medley, it only presents conservative viewpoints.

She then added, “you’re political” because you “criticized President Obama, who was a candidate.”

Dobson and Graham weren’t the only targets during the 2012 campaign:

The Biblical Recorder, the official news journal for North Carolina Southern Baptists, found itself in the same situation in March – audited for the first time since the Baptist newspaper was founded in 1833.

The newspaper garnered national attention last summer after Editor Allan Blume published an interview with Chick-Fil-A president Dan Cathy. In reference to his support of the traditional family, Cathy said he was “guilty as charged.”

The Biblical Recorder also published the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association’s ads affirming traditional marriage.

And then – came the telephone call from the Internal Revenue Service.

“It raised some red flags and made me wonder why we were being targeted for an audit when we have been around since 1833 and have never been audited before,” Blume told Fox News. “Putting it all together made me wonder.”

Blume said the timing may have been coincidental – but “it didn’t seem that way.”

“There seems to be a very anti-Christian bias that has flowed into a lot of government agencies – oppression literally against Christian organizations and groups,” he said. “It makes you wonder what’s going on.

Blume said the newspaper was eventually cleared, but the audit consumed time and money.

“It was a lot of time and energy that we didn’t have,” he said. “It took some of our staff literally several weeks of doing nothing but that (the audit),” he said.

It’s also come to light that the IRS was targeting pro-Israel groups and pro-life groups:

IRS officials refused to grant tax exempt status to two pro-life organizations because of their position on the abortion issue, according to a non-profit law firm, which said that one group was pressured not to protest a pro-choice organization that endorsed President Obama during the last election.

“In one case, the IRS withheld approval of an application for tax exempt status for Coalition for Life of Iowa. In a phone call to Coalition for Life of Iowa leaders on June 6, 2009, the IRS agent ‘Ms. Richards’ told the group to send a letter to the IRS with the entire board’s signatures stating that, under perjury of the law, they do not picket/protest or organize groups to picket or protest outside of Planned Parenthood,” the Thomas More Society announced today. “Once the IRS received this letter, their application would be approved.”

Planned Parenthood endorsed Obama in 2008 and 2012.

The IRS also pressured another pro-life group about its religious activities. “The IRS withheld approval of an application for charitable tax-exempt recognition of Christian Voices for Life, questioning the group’s involvement with ’40 Days for Life’ and ‘Life Chain’ events,” according to the law firm. “The Fort Bend County, Texas, organization was subjected to repeated and lengthy unconstitutional requests for information about the viewpoint and content of its educational communications, volunteer prayer vigils, and other protected activities.”

The fourth undercover video in LiveAction’s “Inhuman” expose of late-term abortion brings us renowned abortionist Dr. LeRoy Carhart reassuring a pregnant woman that carrying a dead 26-week baby inside her womb for three days is no big deal.  ”It’s like putting meat in a Crock-Pot, OK?” he says.

Carhart also jokes that his tools for dismembering and removing a dead child include “a pickaxe” and “a drill bit.”  When advising the woman to allow nothing into her vagina for three weeks after the procedure, he says, “As I tell everyone, that includes fingers, friends, and fruit, OK?”

The famed abortionist begins telling his patient that she’ll be affected emotionally and psychologically by the procedure… but then he tries to portray it as a positive life experience, dismissing the notion of post-abortion depression.  [...]

Like other late-term abortion doctors and clinic staffers profiled in the “Inhuman” series, Carhart frantically instructs his prospective patient not to call 911 if she goes into labor during the procedure, because “they’ll take you to the hospital, right?  They won’t bring you to the clinic, so…”

Instead, he advises her to get in a car and drive to the clinic, or call him.  And this later segment of the video was made 7 weeks after Jennifer Morbelli’s death.  Put that in your Crock-Pot and slow-cook it.

Baby Butcher Gosnell Acquitted Of Some Murder Charges, Others Await Ruling

Yesterday, the judge in the Gosnell trial dropped 3 murder charges against him:

The judge ruled there wasn’t enough evidence to pursue the three first-degree murder charges against 72-year-old Gosnell, ABC reported.

[...]  ABC reports the judge didn’t immediately explain why there wasn’t enough evidence to pursue the three murder charges. The case against Gosnell appeared to suffer a setback last week when the chief medical examiner testified he couldn’t say for sure whether any of the fetuses found in Gosnell’s clinic were born alive.

Gosnell is accused of operating a filthy clinic, spreading venereal diseases by using dirty equipment and routinely killing newborns. The crux of his defense is that no babies were ever born alive in his clinic.

The “lack of evidence” they cite has to do with whether or not the babies were alive outside the womb before Gosnell killed them. As if biologically or ethically, the location matters! Inside or outside the womb, it’s STILL killing a live baby!  Our legal system is so messed up!

Today, the judge changed his mind about one of the charges:

The judge in the Kermit Gosnell murder trial admitted today he made an error when dropping one of the charges against the abortion practitioner.

Common pleas court Judge Jeffrey Minehart admitted he “erred” when dropping the murder charge for Baby C, who was killed in an abortion-infanticide when he was a victim of an attempted abortion but was born alive and tossed in a shoe box, with Gosnell staffers confirming they saw him breathing for 20 minutes.

Gosnell faces eight total murder counts — one for killing a woman in a botched abortion and seven for killing babies in abortion-infanticides that involved live-birth abortions and snipping their necks after birth. The judge received heavy criticism yesterday for dropping three of the murder charges.

Media Ignores Trial Of Gruesome Serial Killer – Because He’s An Abortionist

The trial of the century is underway, but the media seating looks like this:

Why?  Because the man on trial is an abortionist.

Kermit Gosnell is a monster.

He drugged patients that came to him for late term abortions and would leave them for hours, waiting for their babies to be born so he could kill them by snipping their spinal cords with a pair of scissors.

He had a special waiting room just for white patients, while his minority patients waited in squalor.   His floors and medical charts were stained with blood.

He used and reused dirty instruments for multiple patients without sterilizing them, giving some of them STD’s.

He killed at least one woman, but did absolutely nothing to try to save her and abandoned her after the paramedics picked her up.

A former worker at the clinic testified that Gosnell’s gruesome practice of snipping babies’ necks “gave me the creeps.”   She knew the babies were still alive because she witnessed one baby “jump” when he was stabbed in the neck, and other who’s chest was still moving even after his spine had been severed.

Gosnell told one teenage assistant, “That’s what you call a chicken with its head cut off.”

Another former employee recalled a baby who screamed after surviving an abortion, only to be killed later.

Gosnell kept the remains of at least 47 babies in cat food containers and other receptacles around his office.  He kept their severed feet in jars.  Some of the babies were disposed of down the toilets, which would frequently back up from body parts.

The Pennsylvania Health Department deliberately ignored complaints and refused to investigate them for years.

His clinic went 17 years without a health inspection, until an FBI raid in 2010 revealed a gruesome sight:

They found moaning women covered in blood-stained blankets and jars with severed fetus feet, according to the 281-page grand jury report.

The grand jury report that lays out allegations against Gosnell has an entire section called “How did this go on so long?” The simple answer is politics.

Pennsylvania’s health department stopped routine inspections of abortion facilities in the state after Tom Ridge, a pro-choice Republican, became governor in 1995.

Health department lawyers “changed their legal opinions and advice to suit the policy preferences of different governors,” health department official Janet Staloski said in grand jury testimony. In this case, she said the state didn’t want to be “putting a barrier up to women” who wanted abortions.

The reason they avoided inspecting abortion clinics is the same reason the media avoids reporting on their atrocities: they want to protect abortion-on-demand, no matter how many people get hurt or killed.

Because Gosnell was an abortionist whose victims were premature babies, the media covers up his atrocities as if they never happened. His crimes don’t serve their political agenda. His tortured victims are brushed under the rug.

Even Connor Friedersdorf from The Atlantic argues that this story should be front-page news:

The grand jury report in the case of Kermit Gosnell, 72, is among the most horrifying I’ve read. “This case is about a doctor who killed babies and endangered women. What we mean is that he regularly and illegally delivered live, viable babies in the third trimester of pregnancy – and then murdered these newborns by severing their spinal cords with scissors,” it states. “The medical practice by which he carried out this business was a filthy fraud in which he overdosed his patients with dangerous drugs, spread venereal disease among them with infected instruments, perforated their wombs and bowels – and, on at least two occasions, caused their deaths.”

Charged with seven counts of first-degree murder, Gosnell is now standing trial in a Philadelphia courtroom. An NBC affiliate’s coverage includes testimony as grisly as you’d expect. “An unlicensed medical school graduate delivered graphic testimony about the chaos at a Philadelphia clinic where he helped perform late-term abortions,” the channel reports. “Stephen Massof described how he snipped the spinal cords of babies, calling it, ‘literally a beheading. It is separating the brain from the body.’ He testified that at times, when women were given medicine to speed up their deliveries, ‘it would rain fetuses. Fetuses and blood all over the place.’”

[...]  One woman “was left lying in place for hours after Gosnell tore her cervix and colon while trying, unsuccessfully, to extract the fetus,” the report states. Another patient, 19, “was held for several hours after Gosnell punctured her uterus. As a result of the delay, she fell into shock from blood loss, and had to undergo a hysterectomy.” A third patient “went into convulsions during an abortion, fell off the procedure table, and hit her head on the floor. Gosnell wouldn’t call an ambulance, and wouldn’t let the woman’s companion leave the building so that he could call an ambulance.”

[...]   Inducing live births and subsequently severing the heads of the babies is indeed a horrific story that merits significant attention. Strange as it seems to say it, however, that understates the case.

For this isn’t solely a story about babies having their heads severed, though it is that. It is also a story about a place where, according to the grand jury, women were sent to give birth into toilets; where a doctor casually spread gonorrhea and chlamydiae to unsuspecting women through the reuse of cheap, disposable instruments; an office where a 15-year-old administered anesthesia; an office where former workers admit to playing games when giving patients powerful narcotics; an office where white women were attended to by a doctor and black women were pawned off on clueless untrained staffers. Any single one of those things would itself make for a blockbuster news story. Is it even conceivable that an optometrist who attended to his white patients in a clean office while an intern took care of the black patients in a filthy room wouldn’t make national headlines?

But it isn’t even solely a story of a rogue clinic that’s awful in all sorts of sensational ways either. Multiple local and state agencies are implicated in an oversight failure that is epic in proportions! If I were a city editor for any Philadelphia newspaper the grand jury report would suggest a dozen major investigative projects I could undertake if I had the staff to support them. And I probably wouldn’t have the staff. But there is so much fodder for additional reporting.

One pro-abortion blogger was unusually candid about why she and her fellow leftists wouldn’t cover the story:

[T]hose of us who are pro-choice must worry that this will restrict access to abortion: that a crackdown on abortion clinics will follow, with onerous white-glove inspections; that a revolted public will demand more restrictions on late-term abortions; or that women will be too afraid of Gosnell-style crimes to seek a medically necessary abortion.

What if Dr. Kermit Gosnell had snipped the spinal cords of puppies whose owners and brought them to him to be put down?   What if he had murdered teenage girls whose parents didn’t want them anymore, and stored their severed feet as trophies in jars?   What if he had used a gun as a murder weapon?  Would the media have ignored him then?

Consider how the media praised Dr. Tiller, a late-term abortionist who was murdered.   The only difference between Dr. Tiller and Dr. Gosnell was the location of the baby and the method of execution.  Dr. Tiller made sure the babies’ head stayed inside the birth canal as he punctured their skulls and vacuumed out their brain matter.   Dr. Gosnell delivered them live, and then severed their spinal cords with a pair of scissors.   What difference does it make?  Both inflicted excruciating pain and death on innocent, helpless infants.

Planned Parenthood, which pretends to condemn Gosnells’ actions, has already admitted that they support killing infants who survive abortion.  President Obama voted multiple times as a senator to deny medical care to babies who were born alive after a botched abortion attempt.

All of them deny a baby’s humanity and unalienable right to life.  The only difference is that Dr. Gosnell found an especially gruesome way to speed up the process.

The Left and the media (but I repeat myself) support infanticide both inside and outside the womb, at any and every stage of pregnancy and immediately after birth.   That is why they are trying to ignore the Gosnell story.  They secretly support him.  They consider him a warrior for the sacred cause of a “woman’s choice” to kill her own child.

They’ll throw him under the bus when it becomes politically necessary to do so, but make no mistake: they honestly see nothing wrong with what he’s done.   Their view of human life is no different than his…and that’s a very scary thought.

Rand Paul introduces Life at Conception Act in U.S. Senate

Life is an unalienable right.  It is the first right recognized as being endowed by our Creator in the Declaration of Independence.   Without this fundamental right, none of the others matter.

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) introduced the “Life at Conception Act” on Thursday afternoon, then took to Twitter to tell the world, “the right to life is guaranteed to all Americans.”

The Life at Conception Act (S. 583) is designed to extend 14th amendment protections to the unborn, making it illegal to deprive them of life.

The 14th Amendment states:

No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

“The Life at Conception Act legislatively declares what most Americans believe and what science has long known — that human life begins at the moment of conception, and therefore is entitled to legal protection,” Sen. Paul said in a statement.

DHS Invests In Armored Tanks, Surveillance Drones That Can Detect Armed Citizens

Don’t worry, little citizen.  It’s not like they’re planning on actually using them or anything…right?

CNET reports (via Weasel Zippers):

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has customized its Predator drones, originally built for overseas military operations, to carry out at-home surveillance tasks that have civil libertarians worried: identifying civilians carrying guns and tracking their cell phones, government documents show.

The documents provide more details about the surveillance capabilities of the department’s unmanned Predator B drones, which are primarily used to patrol the United States’ northern and southern borders but have been pressed into service on behalf of a growing number of law enforcement agencies including the FBI, the Secret Service, the Texas Rangers, and local police.

Homeland Security’s specifications for its drones, built by San Diego-based General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, say they “shall be capable of identifying a standing human being at night as likely armed or not,” meaning carrying a shotgun or rifle. They also specify “signals interception” technology that can capture communications in the frequency ranges used by mobile phones, and “direction finding” technology that can identify the locations of mobile devices or two-way radios.

In addition to their fancy modified drones and billions of rounds of ammunition, DHS is investing in armored tanks – for domestic use:

The sequestration question du jour is why the Department of Homeland Security, busy releasing hundreds, if not thousands, of deportable and detained illegal aliens due to budget constraints, is buying several thousand Mine Resistant Armored Protection (MRAP) vehicles?

And just who are they intended to be used against?

[...]   The Department of Homeland Security (through the U.S. Army Forces Command) recently retrofitted 2,717 of these MRAP vehicles for service on the streets of the U.S. They were formerly used for counterinsurgency in Iraq.

These vehicles are specifically designed to resist mines and ambush attacks. They use bulletproof windows and are designed to withstand small-arms fire, including smaller-caliber rifles such as a .223 Remington. Does DHS expect a counterinsurgency here?
