Pastor Saeed: An American Citizen Imprisoned in Iran
View on YouTube
An Iranian court on Sunday sentenced Iranian-born American pastor Saeed Abedini – a convert from Islam to Christianity – to eight years’ imprisonment for “threatening the national security of Iran” by leading underground house churches, according to a U.S. religious organization closely involved in the case.
The 32 year-old from Boise, Idaho was convicted four months after being arrested while visiting family in Iran. The American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) says Abedini has been assaulted and mistreated while in custody in Iran’s notorious Evin prison.
The State Department and ACLJ have also raised concerns about the conduct of his trial, saying Abedini’s lawyer was given little time to prepare and was excluded from some of the proceedings.
ACLJ executive director Jordan Sekulow called the case “a mockery of justice.”
[…] Tehran’s treatment of a U.S. citizen is a brazen challenge to Washington as President Obama begins his second term and Sen. John Kerry prepares to assume the helm at the State Department.
So what does Obama’s State Department have to say about the fact that an American citizen is being imprisoned and tortured for his faith in Iran?
“We condemn Iran’s continued violation of the universal right of freedom of religion and we call on the Iranian authorities to respect Mr. Abedini’s human rights and release him,” State Department spokesperson Darby Holladay said.
No statement by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Not the slightest recognition from the President. Knowing that real international pressure could be brought to bear through media coverage and strong statements from the White House, they choose instead to trot out an obscure spokesperson in the hopes that demands for a stronger response will die down.
If the media pressure goes away, there is NO WAY this American citizen will ever see his family again.

Christians in the Middle East continue to suffer at the hand of radical Islamic regimes that the Obama administration insists on pandering to.
The Iranian Christian pastor who was acquitted just two months ago on charges he converted from Islam to Christianity and freed from prison has reportedly been re-arrested in Iran.
Sources close to Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani, including the British group Christian Solidarity Worldwide and the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), say the Iranian Christian pastor was reportedly taken back into custody on Christmas Day.
Both organizations had led the worldwide effort to free Nadarkhani, who was arrested in 2009 and sentenced to death on charges of apostasy for converting from Islam to Christianity.
Nadarkhani, who spent more than 1,000 days in jail, was freed in September by an Iranian court, which acquitted him on the apostasy charges.
According to the sources, Nadarkhani was re-arrested by Iranian authorities to serve the remainder of a three-year sentence he had received for helping Muslims convert from Islam to Christianity. The sentence was upheld in September by the same Iranian court which had acquitted him of blasphemy.
They think Obama is weak, and now they’re going to try and see how far they can push us.
If they close the Strait of Hormuz, choking off the world’s oil supply, gas could skyrocket to over $10 a gallon overnight and send us into a global depression.
Of course, none of that was considered important enough for the media to report this major story before the election, when it could have hurt their favorite candidate.
Iran fired on an unarmed U.S. drone last week as it was hovering in international airspace, the Pentagon announced Thursday.
Spokesman George Little said the incident, which marks the first time the Iranians have fired on a U.S. drone, occurred Nov. 1 at 4:50 a.m. ET. He said the unarmed, unmanned drone was conducting “routine surveillance” over the Persian Gulf when it was “intercepted” by Iran. He said the MQ1 Predator drone, which was not hit, was not in Iranian airspace.
According to Little, two Iranian jets fired twice, missing on both attempts — the drone headed away from the Iranian coast, landing safely soon after at an undisclosed location. The Iranian jets pursued the drone for a short period before giving up.
Charles Krauthammer weighed in the the media cover-up (H/T Gateway Pundit):
Danon has called Obama a “dictator” to Israel. Neither he nor Netanyahu have any illusions about Obama’s agenda towards Israel. They know that America is no ally as long as Obama sits in the White House.
The state of Israel will not capitulate before President Obama, whose “naive” leadership has hurt the U.S., stated Danny Danon, deputy speaker of Israel’s Knesset.
Danon, a Knesset member from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s ruling Likud party, was reacting to the re-election of Obama.
“Obama’s victory demonstrates that the state of Israel must take care of its own interests,” Danon said. “We cannot rely on anyone but ourselves. Obama has hurt the United States by his naïve leadership in foreign policy, which prefers the Arab world over the Western world, along with Israel. The state of Israel will not capitulate before Obama.”
Pray for Israel. They are isolated now, and only God can save them from destruction. God’s judgment will surely fall on America for abandoning His chosen people.
Those “bumps in the road” are the bodies of four dead Americans that you abandoned and made apologies for, Mr. President!
In an interview with 60 Minutes on Sunday, President Obama referred to the problematic relations with Middle Eastern governments as “bumps in the road.” These “bumps” (failures, in reality) are the result of a policy based on profound naiveté and shortsightedness.
[…] The only success the Administration can claim is the killing of Osama bin Laden. Yet, as tragically witnessed in the deaths of four Americans in Benghazi, the threat of terrorism and Islamic extremism remains. For this, the U.S. needs strong leadership, not complacent wishful thinking that is reminiscent of Jimmy Carter.
Romney wasted no time in pinning Obama’s hide to the wall for such a calloused, ignorant statement:
“Bumps in the road?”…“We had an ambassador assassinated…twenty thousand people have been killed in Syria. We have tumult in Pakistan and of course Iran is that much closer to having the capacity to build a nuclear weapon. These are not bumps in the road, these are human lives.”
[…] “This is time for a president who will shape events in the Middle East, not just be…at the mercy of the events of the Middle East.”
In addition to insulting dead Americans, Obama also dismissed Israel’s concerns about Iran’s nuclear ambitions as mere “noise,” despite the fact that Iran recently threatened a first strike against Israel:
In an interview with CBS’ “60 Minutes” that aired Sunday, the president addressed the crisis between Washington and Jerusalem over the handling of the Iranian nuclear issue. Obama stressed he feels “an obligation, not pressure” to coordinate withIsrael.
It won’t be just “noise” when they start WWIII, Mr. President. How about you stop hitting the “snooze” button and answer that 3am call??
Where is the State Department’s condemnation of REAL religious intolerance??
Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani made international headlines and eventually won his freedom after being imprisoned and sentenced to death by an Iranian court, but several other Christians remain in the Islamic nation’s prisons simply because of their faith.
Advocates of the men and women who refuse to renounce their Christian beliefs in a nation where they are vastly outnumbered by an often hostile population say their best chance for freedom is international pressure. Less than 1 percent of Iran’s population is comprised of people of non-Muslim faith, according to CIA’s World Factbook, and Christians, Jews and Hindi face relentless persecution.
“Iran has amped up its systematic persecution of Christians over the last year, closing churches, burning Bibles, imprisoning believers, and using threats and intimidations tactics to suppress religious expression,” said Tiffany Barrans, International legal Director for the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), which waged a successful campaign for Nadarkhani’s release.
Nadarkhani’s dramatic release after three years in prison came Sept. 8, after an international campaign of diplomatic and online pressure prompted a judge to reduce his sentence to time served for downgraded charges of “evangelizing to Muslims.” But other Christian ministers still languish in Iranian prisons with deplorable conditions simply for professing their faith.
Pastor Farshid Fathi has been locked up in Iran’s notorious Evin prison since December 2010 for what the ACLJ describes as practicing his Christian faith. After bowing to international pressure, Iranian authorities are starting to avoid charges that appear to be based on a person’s faith, according to the ACLJ. In Fathi’s case, his Christian activity was framed as being “criminal political offenses” by the court.
Yet another slap in the face to one of our greatest allies.
Obama is determined to doing everything he can to insult Israel and pander to her enemies.
On Monday, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton refused to set a deadline for Iran, urging continued diplomacy as Iran works feverishly to move their nuclear operations into underground bunkers where Israel cannot reach them. Netanyahu’s response pulled no punches:
The United States forfeited its moral right to stop Israel taking action against Iran’s nuclear programme because Washington had refused to be firm with Tehran, the Israeli prime minister said yesterday.
In comments which appeared to bring the possibility of an Israeli attack on Iran closer, Benjamin Netanyahu took the US administration to task after Washington rebuffed his own call to set a red line for Tehran’s nuclear drive.
“The world tells Israel ‘wait, there’s still time’. And I say, ‘Wait for what? Wait until when?'” said Mr Netanyahu, speaking in English. “Those in the international community who refuse to put red lines before Iran don’t have a moral right to place a red light before Israel.”
Mr Netanyahu has been pushing Barack Obama, the US president, to adopt a tougher line against Iran, arguing that setting a clear boundary for Iran’s uranium enrichment activities and imposing stronger economic sanctions could deter Tehran from developing nuclear weapons and mitigate the need for military action.
Obama’s retaliation has been to conjure up an excuse to refuse to meet with him:
For the first time since taking office, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is slated to visit the United States without meeting US President Barack Obama. The lack of a meeting later this month comes in the midst of roiling tensions between Jerusalem and Washington over setting red lines for Iran’s nuclear program.
Some have seen the absence of a face-to-face conversation as a further sign of strain in the relationship.
Just in case anybody was really wondering whether Obama’s “scheduling” excuse held water: he doesn’t have time for Netanyahu, but Obama has offered to meet with the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood, and managed to cram a late-night appearance with David Letterman and a fundraiser with Jay-Z and Beyonce into his busy schedule. Priorities, people.
Praise God! The Iranian regime released Pastor Youcef thanks to all your prayers and international pressure!
Youcef Nadarkhani, the Iranian pastor who captured the hearts of millions as he stood firm in his faith while facing execution, has been acquitted of apostasy.
Two organizations that have closely been monitoring the case and have sources in Iran reported Saturday that Nadarkhani, who went on trial early Saturday, has been released from prison and is at home with his family.
“Thank you to everyone that has supported me with your prayers,” Nadarkhani said, according to Present Truth Ministries.
Though acquitted of apostasy, the Iranian pastor was found guilty of evangelizing Muslims. He was sentenced to three years imprisonment but was released because he already served this time.
“We give thanks to God for His deliverance and the answer to our prayers,” Jason DeMars, founder of Present Truth Ministries, said in a statement.
I hope he is able to leave the country! Next time they won’t bother to arrest him. I’d be very surprised if some radical Muslim in his neighborhood hasn’t already painted a target on his back.
Obama has officially turned America’s back on Israel. He’d rather the Iranians acquire a nuclear weapon than lift a finger to help our allies stop them. If the Islamic world unites to retaliate, we could be looking at World War III.
The U.S. military’s top officer made statements Thursday which appear to warn Israel that it should not expect U.S. assistance if it chooses to attack Iran’s nuclear weapons program.
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Martin Dempsey, said such an attack would “clearly delay but probably not destroy Iran’s nuclear program,” The Guardian reported Thursday. He added: “I don’t want to be complicit if they [Israel] choose to do it.”
Dempsey said he did not know Iran’s nuclear intentions, since intelligence does not reveal intentions. What was clear, he said, was that the “international coalition” applying pressure on Iran “could be undone if [Iran] was attacked prematurely”.
There’s no diplomacy with Iran…only stalling. The Iranian regime is part of an apocalyptic Islamic cult that believes it is their destiny to usher in Armageddon and the return of their “messiah” figure, the 12th Imam, who will establish a global Islamic Caliphate. They’re convinced if they die in nuclear war, they’ll be greeted as martyrs in heaven with 72 virgins. You can’t negotiate with that kind of suicidal insanity.
They know if they wait until after the election, it might be too late to destroy all the weapons Iran is moving underground, and Obama will hang them out to dry.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak are standing united on a key issue: Iran must be attacked. Moreover, both have called for attacks on Iran this fall, a call which some officials within the Jewish state allegedly oppose.
Nahum Barnea and Shimon Shiffer, both of whom are senior commentators for the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, say that Netanyahu and Barak are alone in these convictions: that “not a single state official or military official or even the president — supports an Israeli attack on Iran.”
Both Barnea and Shiffer said the offices of Netanyahu and Barak “were aware that an Israeli strike on Iran may embarrass U.S. President Barack Obama’s administration and strengthen…Mitt Romney.” To spare Obama such embarrassment, it appears at least two commentators at Yedioth Ahronoth want to turn a blind eye to Iran’s nuclear machinations.
For his part, Defense Minister Barak said that any official who disagrees with him and Netanyahu on this issue is “free to resign.”
White Houses Pressures Israel To Delay Strike On Iran Until After Election, Israel Asks For ‘Bunker Buster’ Bombs
If Israel waits until after the election Obama WON’T have their back because he won’t be worried about losing the Jewish vote anymore.
If they want his backup, it’s now or never!
Israel will only strike Iranian nuclear facilities in September or after the United States presidential elections in November, a White House official told the British Sunday Times newspaper after a meeting between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Barack Obama last week.
According to the report, Obama has taken Israel’s warnings about a possible strike in Iran very seriously. The Washington source added that the president “might visit in the summer to reassure the Israelis that the US commitment to defend Israel is unshakable and thus thwart a possible autumn attack.”
Obama insisted that any attack on Iran should be postponed until after the US presidential elections in November, possibly even until next spring. The source revealed that Netanyahu consented to delaying a strike, but wished to know until when. “The question is how much time,” he reportedly said.
The White House source added that Netanyahu presented a number of demands Iran must fulfill in order to avoid an Israeli attack, including transferring 150 kilograms (330 pounds) of enriched uranium to a third party, stopping the enrichment process at the Fordow site near Qom and ceasing any further enrichment beyond the 3.5% required for power generation.
Israel is asking the Obama administration for “bunker buster” bombs which can reach and destroy deeply fortified nuclear facilities.
This is probably the last opportunity Israel will be offering Obama to avoid a strike on Iran. With the weapons they have now, they can’t afford to wait until the whole operation is moved underground…and they won’t. With bunker busters, they could give Iran – and Obama – a little more time.
Obama just wants them to stall until after the election, so that’s the leverage they have against him. Will it be enough to convince him to comply?
Israel has asked the United States for advanced “bunker-buster” bombs and refueling planes that could improve its ability to attack Iran’s underground nuclear sites, an Israeli official said on Thursday.
“Such a request was made” around the time of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to Washington this week, the official said, confirming media reports.
But the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity given the sensitivity of the issue, played down as “unrealistic” Israeli reports that the United States would condition supplying the hardware on Israel promising not to attack Iran this year.
The White House denied on Thursday the reports that U.S. President Barack Obama offered Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to give Israel advanced “bunker buster” missiles and long-range planes if Israel agreed not to attack Iran during 2012.
“The President did not reach such an agreement nor did he make such an offer,” Channel 10 quoted White House spokesman Jay Carney as having said during a press conference. “The two countries cooperate at various levels, including on the military and security levels, but this issue was not discussed at the meeting. The reports are not accurate.”
A report in the Ma’ariv newspaper earlier on Thursday said that Obama made the offer to Netanyahu during their meeting in Washington earlier this week.
Charles Krauthammer wrote in a recent editorial that Israel’s existence is more important than Obama’s reelection bid:
Stopping Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon is more importantthan President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign, Washington Postand widely syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer wrote Sunday.
He also revealed that a senior administration official told the newspaper, “We’re trying to make the decision to attack as hard as possible for Israel.”
The veteran journalist accused President Obama of cheering for Israel at last week’s American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) conference and then stepping an about-face by agreeing “to yet another round of talks with the mullahs” of Iran despite previous “blatant Iranian stalling and unseriousness” on the part of the Ahmadinejad regime.
Krauthammer directly accused President Obama of putting his own campaign for re-election ahead of Israel’s security. “Obama wants to get past Nov. 6 without any untoward action that might threaten his re-election,” he wrote.
Pray for Pastor Youcef and his family. The Iranian court has sentenced him to death for the “crime” of believing in Christ, for asserting his God-given right to educate his own children according to his faith, and for trying to follow the law by registering a home church. This is Sharia law in action – no tolerance, no freedom of conscience, no “peace” for those who dare to assert their God-given, unalienable right not to bow to Islamic tyranny.
Unalienable rights are endowed by our Creator, not the state. Youcef has an unalienable human right – granted by God – to choose his religion according to his conscience, no matter what a tyrannical government says. By denying him this right, Iran is committing a crime against God’s “Natural Law” – the higher law that no man or ruler is above.
Our founders understood this, which is why they condemned King George III for violating “the laws of nature and of nature’s God” in the Declaration of Independence, and protected unalienable rights with in the constitution. Any government or law which violates Natural Law and unalienable rights is unjust by definition.
Pray for Youcef and his family as they are being subjected to this tyrannical injustice!
Despite the international outrage over the incarceration and slated death penalty for Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani, Iran’s judiciary has issued orders to hang the dissident Christian.
Jay Sekulow, the chief counsel for the Washington-based American Center for Law & Justice (ACLJ), said on Wednesday, “We are hearing reports from our contacts in Iran that the execution orders for Christian Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani may have been issued.”
Nadarkhani, now 34, was arrested in 2009 for questioning the compulsory Islamic education of his children and for seeking to register a home-based church. He was sentenced to death in 2010.
The ACLJ has closely monitored the case and has previously translated Iranian legal documents.
Sekulow added, “It is unclear whether Pastor Youcef would have a right of appeal from the execution order. We know that the head of Iran’s Judiciary, Ayatollah Sadegh Larijani, must approve publicly held executions, but only a small percentage of executions are held in public – most executions in Iran are conducted in secret.”
There has been a dramatic increase of executions in the Islamic Republic over the last month, Sekulow said.
Obama is doing nothing to prevent this apocalyptic Islamic death cult from acquiring a nuclear weapon as they actively seek to bring about Armageddon and usher in the return of their Messianic “12th Imam,” who is supposed to bring the entire world into submission to a global Islamic Caliphate.
Iran’s economy is struggling because of crippling new restrictions on the country’s financial system, but no amount of sanctions will keep the mullahs from their headlong pursuit of nuclear weapons, which they hope will help usher in Islamic dominance of the world. The religious leaders believe it is their responsibility, as foreshadowed by the Quran, to bring about nuclear war to facilitate the coming of the last Islamic Messiah.
Two Iranian grand ayatollahs are now saying that the Earth will soon be under the feet of Muslims, as promised by the Quran.
The clerical establishment in Iran has long believed that the Islamic Revolution of 1979 was a sign by Allah that the end of times is near and that the duty and responsibility of the believers is to become ready for such an event.
Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, indicated to his close associates that he saw a mandate for the final glorification of Allah to overthrow the Shah, establish an Islamic state and then pass the flag of Islam to the last Islamic Messiah. When asked if he would be the one to pass the flag, he responded that “the one after me will be the one” who will create the circumstances for the reappearance of Imam Mahdi, the Shiites’ 12th Imam.
Many in the Islamic regime believe that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who became the Iranian supreme leader after Khomeini’s death, is the chosen one to pass the flag of Islam to Imam Mahdi. In fact, statements made by close associates of Khamenei indicate that the supreme leader himself is convinced that he is the one who will trigger the coming.
Mahdi, in Shiite belief, will reappear at the time of Armageddon.
Ron Paul has no problem with these people going nuclear, either, claiming that they’re not a threat. And Paulbots wonder why most Americans think his foreign policy is suicidal and would never vote for him. If Iran launches a nuke, there won’t be a constitutional republic left for us to defend.
Israel is going to be stuck doing the job WE should be doing – disarming Iran – and it will cost them dearly when the Arab world decides to retaliate.
The former chief of staff to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Saturday an Israeli strike against Iran’s nuclear facilities is “imminent.”
Naftali Bennett appeared on Fox News’ “Huckabee” and painted a dire picture of a world with a nuclear Iran, saying Israel will not hesitate to take action if necessary — and that time is of the essence.
“We’re at the very last moment. This is going to be the first time in history that a maniacal, radical Islamic regime will acquire a nuclear weapon,” he said. “The day after they have a bomb will be a different day for the entire world.”
Calling Iran “an octopus of terror,” Bennett told host Mike Huckabee in no uncertain terms: “We have to stop them, and yes, it is imminent.”
I wouldn’t put it past him.
Since 2008, Barack Obama’s position on Iran has vacillated somewhat, but on the whole remained one of benevolence. During his presidential campaign, he expressed his openness to diplomacy with the nation’s leaders via his willingness to hold talks without requiring them to meet any conditions or demands from the U.S. Then, even before becoming president, he decided the talks would only happen if doing so “advances the interests of the U.S.” And months after being sworn into office, while on his “American Apology Tour” in the Middle East, he assured Iranian leaders that he had no intention of standing between them and nuclear weapons. He even said, “No single nation should pick and choose which nation holds nuclear weapons.”
In addition to these things, Obama has been cold toward Israel at times and openly indignant toward them at others, especially regarding their intentions to stop Iran from getting its hands on a nuclear weapon. For example, within the last month Israel has been warned not to attack Iran without our approval and told that if they do, “the US would not defend Israel” should there be a reprisal.
Yet after all this, Iranian President Ahmadinejad would be foolish to sleep with his door unlocked. For Obama said the same things about the Middle East as a whole during this Apology Tour, and where is Moammar Gaddafi now? Perhaps you’ll remember that the same Obama who told Middle Eastern leaders the U.S. lacks the moral authority to police the world in 2009, then defended policing the world (by sending troops to Libya) in 2011 and saying: “To brush aside America’s responsibility as a leader and — more profoundly — our responsibilities to our fellow human beings under such circumstances would have been a betrayal of who we are.”
And the latest news is that U.S. aircraft carriers have taken positions from which they could bomb any target any location in Iran. At last count, “US naval forces in the Gulf and the Arabian Sea have over 320 Tomahawk missiles” at the ready. And another carrier group, which is on its way now, will raise the number of Tomahawk missiles to approximately 430.
While I don’t want to say the sky is falling if it’s not, I also don’t want to ignore the fact that beneath the gentle sound of Obama’s pacifistic speeches and his 1960s-style antiwar approach to diplomacy, there lurks a man who wants a second term in office. And to get such a term, he comes across as someone who’d just about anything to get a few red state voters to go his way in November. And what would motivate red-state moms and dads more than the knowledge that their sons and daughters were in Iran, carrying out “our [responsibility] to our fellow human beings”?
I hope I’m wrong. But as I think about the policy shift that took place to justify Libya, I can’t help but wonder if a war with Iran might be part of the perfection storm Obama’s counting on to get reelected.
