In spite of President Obama’s executive order – that he said would assure that no federal funds would be pay for abortions under the new health care law – the federal government is now paying for abortions.
 
CitizenLink and its pro-life allies issued repeated warnings about the possibility. Obama took issue with those claims in a 2009 speech to a joint session of Congress:

“And one more misunderstanding I want to clear up,” he said, “under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions.”

But, the Obama Administration is now quietly subsidizing nearly all forms of abortions in Pennsylvania, according to a recently uncovered plan – referred to as the ‘Rendell-Sebelius plan’ – designed to circumvent public scrutiny and Obama’s executive order.

Stupak Sells Out Unborn: Flips Vote to ‘Yes’ on Health Care Bill

Michigan Democratic Rep. Bart Stupak, the central player in a grueling abortion debate underlying the health care law, announced Friday he will retire from Congress at the end of this term, because “it’s time to begin a new and exciting chapter.”

Flanked by his wife and other supporters, Stupak said he made the decision within the last 36 hours not to seek a 10th term and he is choosing to step down because he thinks he has achieved his goal of universal health care.

That “achievement” meant selling unborn babies down the river.  Good riddance!

Stupak betrayed the unborn for the modern version of 30 pieces of silver.

The 11 House Democrats led by Rep. Bart Stupak who dropped their opposition to health care reform legislation mere hours before the final vote have requested $3.4 billion in earmarks — and one watchdog group wants to know whether the money represents business as usual or political payoffs. 

The Sunlight Foundation says it plans to track the earmark requests, which were put in one day after health care reform cleared Congress, to see whether they’re approved and whether it appears lawmakers are being rewarded for their vote. 

“We know that in Congress one of the ways that leadership tries to influence members is through earmarks,” said Bill Allison, editorial director at the nonpartisan organization. “So this seemed to us something good to follow.” 

Stupak and the 10 other Democrats were critical to the success of the health care bill. They were holding out over concerns about funding for abortion coverage but announced the president had assuaged their worries — with an executive order restricting abortion funding — the morning of the big vote.

Once again, the big issue is abortion. And while the happy-days-are-here-again headlines will be playing big in the mainstream media in the wake of the House health care vote, the cold reality is that once again, Democrats have chosen a politically risky course, which will likely further alienate them from the center-right majority in the country. Indeed, the tricky tactics used by the Democratic majority in Congress to enact Obamacare in 2010 will be remembered alongside the Supreme Court’s divisive decision on Roe v. Wade back in 1973. In both instances, conservatives did not start these political-cultural battles, but in both instances, conservatives are destined to win them.

Consequences: Stupak stripped of “Defender of Life” award

Bart Stupak is a traitor to the unborn.  

After his announcement that he was switching to vote “yes” in exchange for a worthless “executive order” from Obama (and other favors which are only now coming to light), the number of Facebook fans to his congressional opponent, Dan Benishek, tripled within an hour.

In response to Rep. Bart Stupak’s announcement that he and other self-labeled “pro-life” Democrats will vote in favor of Healthcare reform legislation with the addition of an Executive Order from the White House to address concerns about abortion funding, Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund President Marjorie Dannenfelser offered the following statement:

“This Wednesday night is our third annual Campaign for Life Gala, where we were planning to honor Congressman Stupak for his efforts to keep abortion-funding out of health care reform-we will no longer be doing so. By accepting this deal from the most pro-abortion President in American history, Stupak has not only failed to stand strong for unborn children, but also for his constituents and pro-life voters across the country.

“Let me be clear: any representative, including Rep. Stupak, who votes for this healthcare bill can no longer call themselves ‘pro-life.’ The Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund will not endorse, or support in any capacity, any Member of Congress who votes for this bill in any future election.

Pro-Life Groups Blast Executive Order Deal Between Stupak, Barack Obama

The National Right To Life Committee issued a scathing statement regarding the “deal” Stupak made with Obama, reminding Americans:

The executive order promised by President Obama was issued for political effect.  It changes nothing.  It does not correct any of the serious pro-abortion provisions in the bill.  The president cannot amend a bill by issuing an order, and the federal courts will enforce what the law says.

We are dismayed that Congressman Stupak has made a backroom deal with pro-abortion forces. Stupak and his colleagues have appointed President Obama to do their job for them, making the President the sole guardian of pro-life integrity in the health care plan. The chickens have elected the fox to guard the henhouse.

It is absurd to trust that Obama, the most pro-abortion president in our history, will stop taxes from paying for abortions.  We can only imagine the foul pressures brought upon Congressman Stupak by Obama’s Administration and Pelosi’s Majority. If this bill is not stopped, the consequences of Stupak’s deal with pro-abortion forces will lead to the deaths of countless more defenseless, unborn Americans. With this bill, the IRS will be Planned Parenthood’s cashier as Americans are forced to fund this horrific human rights abuse.

Was Democrat Bart Stupak Bribed with Airport Deal to Get Him to Switch to “yes” on Obamacare?

Human Events was just informed by a member on the floor of the House of Representatives that Rep. Bart Stupak has flipped his vote from no to yes on health care, pending a non-binding executive order from the president that reaffirms public funding will not be used for abortion.

Stupak’s decision comes as the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops sent information to congressional staffs affirming that an executive order will not be sufficient to prevent federal funding of abortion should the health care bill pass.

The Washington Examiner asks:

Why did Bart Stupak agree to a deal which supposedly restricts abortion funding by an executive order, when it’s obvious, as Yuval Levin points out, that an executive order can’t trump a law and the Senate bill clearly authorizes abortion funding?

The Examiner observes:

The blogosphere was immediately deluged with comments concerning Stupak’s intelligence – or perceived lack thereof considering the trust he imparted to a man who is stridently pro-abortion.

Stupak’s blather about the sanctity of life and how he fought to preserve it are just ridiculous. His judgment AND intelligence being called into question are very much warranted in light of how he trusted a man like Obama to keep his word in view of his horrendous lack of respect for life.

Stupak’s very claim to be pro-life rings hollow when the record of the one in whom he put his faith is given even the most casual scrutiny. One must wonder if Mr. Stupak has ever pondered the monstrous nature of what Obama advocated in those No votes to mandate medical care for born alive infants.

However this ends up, Michigan’s Bart Stupak has branded himself a traitor to principle of epic proportion and someone whose judgment can never again be trusted.

What are Democratic leaders saying? “If you pass the Stupak amendment, more children will be born, and therefore it will cost us millions more. That’s one of the arguments I’ve been hearing,” Stupak says. “Money is their hang-up. Is this how we now value life in America? If money is the issue — come on, we can find room in the budget. This is life we’re talking about.”

If Obamacare passes, Stupak says, it could signal the end of any meaningful role for pro-life Democrats within their own party. “It would be very, very hard for someone who is a right-to-life Democrat to run for office,” he says.
