Abortion, breast cancer, the Susan G. Komen Foundation, and pro-life alternatives

Abortionbreastcancer.com is an organization that is getting the word out to women of all the risk factors that can lead to breast cancer. Please take some time to go to their website and tell others about them. Breast Cancer Awareness Month is October.

Like many families, my grandmother and great-grandmother both had breast cancer. The issue of wanting to fight what harms your family or friends is noble. So when I tell people that I do not support Susan G. Komen an organization that exists to “fight breast cancer”, I normally get the look of one: why would you abandon your family or two: oh there goes one of those extremist.

However, my reasons are not that extreme, but rather principled.

I’m sure many of you reading this article have also been confronted with the issue of, “if I ‘m pro-life, how can I support an organization that supports the nation’s leading abortion provider?”  Hopefully, the following principles can shed some light on how to respond sympathetically, yet firm with why you cannot wear pink, or join the race, or all the various ways that Susan G. Komen is supported.

Principle # 1 Don’t give to organizations that promote the shedding of innocent blood.

If this were a list of commandments, we could start with Thou Shall Not Kill. However, Proverbs 6:17 states that one of the seven things God hates are hands that shed innocent blood.

Unfortunately, Susan G. Komen has given over $3 million dollars between 2003 and 2008 to Planned Parenthood which is the nation’s leading abortion provider.

While Susan G. Komen makes claims that these grants go for breast exams, once the funds go to Planned Parenthood they are fungible. For example, you can throw two twenty dollar bills into a purse one from a friend and one from your own account, but when you go to pay the light bill you use both.

The same is true with Planned Parenthood’s money it receives from Komen. Whenever someone applies for a grant they can say that while this $5,000 is going to breast cancer research, 20 percent of that money is going to pay for administrative costs like keeping the lights on and paying rent. So in essence, the money that people are raising to fight breast cancer is also going to keep the lights on at Planned Parenthood.

According to the 2008 Annual Report from Planned Parenthood, breast cancer services decreased by 4% and abortion procedures increased by 6%. In 2008, Susan G. Komen gave $731,000 to Planned Parenthood.

Principle # 2 Know and Recognize the Risk Factors for the Disease You are Trying to Prevent.

There are certain risks that can increase an individual’s chance of getting breast cancer. While Susan G. Komen says that they believe in knowing your risk factors, they have repeatedly denied the link between breast cancer and one of the greatest avoidable risk factors, abortion.

According to Dr. Angela Lanfranchi, “29 out of 38 worldwide epidemiological studies show an increased risk of breast cancer of approximately 30% among women who have had an abortion.”

‘Imperfect’ kids teach life lessons

We’ve become a culture both welcoming and deadly to people with disabilities. On the one hand, the law requires that they have access to buildings and employment opportunities, and children with disabilities are mainstreamed in our schools.

As a country, we’re more sensitive about the words we use (think of the deserved uproar when White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel called opponents of his health care plan “retarded.”) It’s wonderful to see changes in our laws and attitudes that inspire compassion and respect for people like Michael. While he doesn’t fit the imagined mold of a “perfect” child, he still has rights that are protected by law.

But only if he’s lucky enough to be born.

For preborn children with disabilities, our culture’s desire for perfect children too often proves deadly. Prenatal testing, now routine, spots markers of future disability or disease. Sometimes that testing saves lives. Most often, however, a prenatal diagnosis of disability such as Down syndrome spells death.

If liberals don’t like it, they ban it

There is a little piece making its way around the Internet. It has turned viral mostly because many see so much truth in it.

“If a conservative doesn’t like guns, he doesn’t buy one.  If a liberal doesn’t like guns, he wants guns outlawed.

If a conservative is a vegetarian, he doesn’t eat meat.  If a liberal is a vegetarian, he wants meat products banned.

If a conservative is homosexual, he quietly leads his life.  If a liberal is homosexual, he demands legislated respect.

If a conservative is down-and-out, he tries to better his situation.  A liberal wants to know who is going to fix it for him.

If a conservative doesn’t like a talk show host, he switches channels.  Liberals want those they don’t like to be silenced.

If a conservative is a nonbeliever, he doesn’t go to church.  If a liberal is a nonbeliever he wants any mention of religion silenced, unless, of course, the religion is from another culture.

If a conservative needs health care he shops for it, or looks for a job that will provide it.  A liberal demands that the rest of us provide for it.

A conservative will read this and will forward it, so his friends can have a good laugh.  A liberal will read this and delete it, because he’s offended.”

There is a widely held perception that liberals want governments to control almost everything. Conservatives don’t.

Astute readers are already lining up defenses based on hypocrisy. Be careful, the exceptions are not as exceptional as they may appear.

Liberals, for example, don’t believe the government should ban abortions and gay marriage, and conservatives call for restrictions. It appears hypocritical on its face, but is it?

Liberals frame these issues in terms of “choice” and “consent,” but continue to demand governmental intervention to validate their choice. In fact, liberals wish to use the governmental purse and the authority of governmental courts to push these issues on everyone irrespective of the stated wishes of the majority expressed through the ballot box.

Needed: A True Human Rights Movement Based Upon the Natural Law

On May 4, 2009, Pope Benedict XVI I spoke to members of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences. He reaffirmed that there is a Natural Law which can be known by all men and women through the exercise of reason. This Natural Law has also made known to all men and women the existence of fundamental human rights which are binding upon all Nations and for all time:

“The Church has always affirmed that fundamental rights, above and beyond the different ways in which they are formulated and the different degrees of importance they may have in various cultural contexts, are to be upheld and accorded universal recognition because they are inherent in the very nature of man, who is created in the image and likeness of God. If all human beings are created in the image and likeness of God, then they share a common nature that binds them together and calls for universal respect.”

Understanding the existence of Natural Law as the basis of human rights is critical in the light of the current decline of Western civilization. In the U.S. and throughout much of Europe, there is a denial of fundamental Human Rights beginning with the denial of what is the foundation of all true human rights, the Right to Life. Rediscovering the truth concerning the existence of a Natural Law as the ground for human rights is the path to the recovery of western civilization.

President Obama Lied About Not Using Federal Funds for Abortions

View on YouTube

In spite of President Obama’s executive order – that he said would assure that no federal funds would be pay for abortions under the new health care law – the federal government is now paying for abortions.

CitizenLink and its pro-life allies issued repeated warnings about the possibility. Obama took issue with those claims in a 2009 speech to a joint session of Congress:

“And one more misunderstanding I want to clear up,” he said, “under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions.”

But, the Obama Administration is now quietly subsidizing nearly all forms of abortions in Pennsylvania, according to a recently uncovered plan – referred to as the ‘Rendell-Sebelius plan’ – designed to circumvent public scrutiny and Obama’s executive order.

Obama Administration Approves First Direct Taxpayer Funding of Abortion Through New High-Risk Insurance Pools

If you want proof that President Obama’s Executive Order on taxpayer-funded abortion was a sham, look no further than Pennsylvania, says House Republican Leader John Boehner (Ohio).

Boehner and other Republicans point to reports that the Health and Human Services Department is giving Pennsylvania $160 million to set up a new high-risk insurance pool that will cover any abortion that is legal in the state.

“The fact that the high-risk pool insurance program in Pennsylvania will use federal taxpayer dollars to fund abortions is unconscionable,” Boehner said in a statement on Tuesday.

“Just last month at the White House, I asked President Obama to provide the American people with a progress report on the implementation of his Executive Order, which purports to ban taxpayer-funding of abortions. Unfortunately, the President provided no information, and the American people are still waiting for answers.”

President Obama pledged that under his health care plan “no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions, and federal conscience laws will remain in place.”

US Taxpayers to Subsidize Abortion Through New UN Agency

Time for Americans to pull out of the radical leftist farce known as the ”United Nations”.

The U.S. will subsidize a new $500-million United Nations agency that conservatives say will likely promote an abortion agenda.

In what the United Nations deemed as a historic move, the U.N. General Assembly unanimously voted on July 2 to approve “U.N. Women,” an agency intended to accelerate progress in achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Currently, the United States pays for 22 percent of the U.N.’s core budget.

The new agency is drawing negative reaction from conservative leaders concerned that the U.N. will use taxpayer dollars to take a step toward a worldwide right to abortion.

“This will be a massive waste of taxpayer funds,” Wendy Wright, president of Concerned Women for America, told CNSNews.com. “It’s a jobs program for women with elitist views and, like every other U.N. agency, will be plagued by waste, fraud and abuse. To help women who really need it, funding should go straight to the people and programs doing the work, not a bureaucratic middle-man that will host expensive conferences and lavish salaries.”

She called the agency’s workings a “surreptitious” effort, believing that the agency’s agenda extends much further than promoting abortion.

“The priority of the leaders who orchestrated the development of this ‘uber-agency’ is sexual and reproductive rights. That means abortion and sexual license — homosexual, lesbian, prostitution, etc.,” she told CNSNews.com.

Furthermore, she said that the agency would move to forcefully impose its views on the rest of society.

“This agency would use power and money to coerce countries to accept their policy and legal demands. With a high-level position of Under-Secretary-General and offices within countries, it can work top-down and bottom-up to pressure governments to do what it wants,” she said.

Administration comes clean, explains death panels

Obama’s Office of Management and Budget Director, Peter Orszag, has now indirectly admitted that ObamaCare will impose a system of rationing through the newly-created “Independent Payment Advisory Board.”

What’s even more horrifying than the fact that Sarah Palin was right after all is that ObamaCare also illegally strips Congress of its legislative powers over health care.

Every day-to-day decision made by this “independent” death panel will immediately become law and can only be reversed individually, through a separate act of Congress each time (with a 67-vote majority), signed by the president.

This impossibly stacks the deck against any real efforts to create accountability or oversight. It leaves the entire health care system in the hands of one tiny, unaccountable, un-elected federal bureacracy…which can now issue any arbitrary edict it pleases on who can provide what services where, and to whom, from on high, with total impunity.

Abortionist Claims “Life begins when his mother wants him”

This isn’t even a scientifically accurate statement!

If you find a micro-organism on another planet, it’s called “life”.  If you find it in the womb, it’s called a “clump of cells”.

If scientists want us to take their claims of objectivity seriously, they should start by acknowledging the truth, even when it’s not “politically correct”.

In a Portland, Oregon article from the Willamette Week, abortionist Jim Newhall gives his view on human value:

“Not everybody is meant to be born. I believe, for a baby, life begins when his mother wants him.”

How absurd is this! According to his logic, a person becomes human and real only when someone thinks he is meaningful and valuable. Women who go into abortion clinics are extremely vulnerable and are susceptible to take in any advice from clinic workers. These women are looking for help and for the truth, but to my deepest sorrow, they do not receive it.

What women hear from these clinics are terms used to dehumanize her baby, and turn the women against her child by calling the embryo or fetus “inconvenient”, “unwanted”, and a “clump of cells”. We see this type of thinking on human value in abortion clinics like Planned Parenthood. You can view the undercover investigation videos of the lies that are being said within the walls of the clinics and that are being forced into the lives of young women. I deeply encourage you to pass these videos on and continue to be the light in this dark world we live in.

Duke University Keeps Pro-Life Group Out of Women’s Center During ‘Week for Life’

Duke University shows intolerance for intellectal diversity.

Duke University’s Women’s Center has canceled an event about motherhood because the sponsor was engaging in pro-life expression elsewhere on campus. A Women’s Center representative told Duke Students for Life (DSFL) that “we have a problem” and an ideological “conflict” with the event, which was supposedly canceled to protect Duke women from encountering the event during the group’s “traumatizing” pro-life “Week for Life.” Today’s press release has the story.

As part of a “Week for Life” series of events held at Duke over March 15-19, DSFL had reserved a Women’s Center space for a “Discussion with a Duke Mother” on March 18. A Duke student and mother was to speak about motherhood and the challenges of being in both roles. But the day before the event, the reservation was abruptly canceled in a voicemail to the group.

Meeting with the group on March 18, Duke Women’s Center Gender Violence Prevention Specialist Martin Liccardo said that because the event was associated with the Week for Life and DSFL, the event could not be held at the Women’s Center.

Liccardo told the group that the prospect of holding a pro-life event in the Women’s Center during Week for Life was too upsetting for some students: “We had a very strong reaction from students in general who use our space who said this was something that was upsetting and not OK. So based on that, we said, OK, we are going to respond to this and stop the program.”

Obamacare Is the Next Roe v. Wade

Once again, the big issue is abortion. And while the happy-days-are-here-again headlines will be playing big in the mainstream media in the wake of the House health care vote, the cold reality is that once again, Democrats have chosen a politically risky course, which will likely further alienate them from the center-right majority in the country. Indeed, the tricky tactics used by the Democratic majority in Congress to enact Obamacare in 2010 will be remembered alongside the Supreme Court’s divisive decision on Roe v. Wade back in 1973. In both instances, conservatives did not start these political-cultural battles, but in both instances, conservatives are destined to win them.

Consequences: Stupak stripped of “Defender of Life” award

Bart Stupak is a traitor to the unborn.

After his announcement that he was switching to vote “yes” in exchange for a worthless “executive order” from Obama (and other favors which are only now coming to light), the number of Facebook fans to his congressional opponent, Dan Benishek, tripled within an hour.

Michelle Malkin reports:

In response to Rep. Bart Stupak’s announcement that he and other self-labeled “pro-life” Democrats will vote in favor of Healthcare reform legislation with the addition of an Executive Order from the White House to address concerns about abortion funding, Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund President Marjorie Dannenfelser offered the following statement:

“This Wednesday night is our third annual Campaign for Life Gala, where we were planning to honor Congressman Stupak for his efforts to keep abortion-funding out of health care reform-we will no longer be doing so. By accepting this deal from the most pro-abortion President in American history, Stupak has not only failed to stand strong for unborn children, but also for his constituents and pro-life voters across the country.

“Let me be clear: any representative, including Rep. Stupak, who votes for this healthcare bill can no longer call themselves ‘pro-life.’ The Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund will not endorse, or support in any capacity, any Member of Congress who votes for this bill in any future election.

Hot Air chides: “You traded 30 years of pro-life law for a promise from the most pro-abortion president in history“.

Pro-Life Groups Blast Executive Order Deal Between Stupak, Barack Obama

The National Right To Life Committee issued a scathing statement regarding the “deal” Stupak made with Obama, reminding Americans:

The executive order promised by President Obama was issued for political effect.  It changes nothing.  It does not correct any of the serious pro-abortion provisions in the bill.  The president cannot amend a bill by issuing an order, and the federal courts will enforce what the law says.

Live Action President Lila Rose weighs in:

We are dismayed that Congressman Stupak has made a backroom deal with pro-abortion forces. Stupak and his colleagues have appointed President Obama to do their job for them, making the President the sole guardian of pro-life integrity in the health care plan. The chickens have elected the fox to guard the henhouse.

It is absurd to trust that Obama, the most pro-abortion president in our history, will stop taxes from paying for abortions.  We can only imagine the foul pressures brought upon Congressman Stupak by Obama’s Administration and Pelosi’s Majority. If this bill is not stopped, the consequences of Stupak’s deal with pro-abortion forces will lead to the deaths of countless more defenseless, unborn Americans. With this bill, the IRS will be Planned Parenthood’s cashier as Americans are forced to fund this horrific human rights abuse.

Stupak: Dems told me they want to fund abortions because more kids mean higher health-care costs

What are Democratic leaders saying? “If you pass the Stupak amendment, more children will be born, and therefore it will cost us millions more. That’s one of the arguments I’ve been hearing,” Stupak says. “Money is their hang-up. Is this how we now value life in America? If money is the issue — come on, we can find room in the budget. This is life we’re talking about.”

If Obamacare passes, Stupak says, it could signal the end of any meaningful role for pro-life Democrats within their own party. “It would be very, very hard for someone who is a right-to-life Democrat to run for office,” he says.
